OUR MISSION
The Bryn Mawr College Asian Students Association (ASA) is a space for Asian and Asian American students and the general Bryn Mawr College community:
-
To explore and embrace their multiplicity of cultures and identities, especially those of Asians and Asian Americans,
-
To promote cultural, social, and political awareness of Asian and Asian American perspectives in an inclusive and engaging environment,
-
To foster outside connections by inviting Asian American professionals to campus.

MEET THE EBOARD
KAYLA THOMPSON
Co-President
She/Her | ‘23 | Intended Computer Science and French Major
Kayla is a first generation, half-Black, and half-Filipina student from Claymont, Delaware. With a multiracial background, Kayla appreciates conversations that focus on Asian and mixed race identities, and how to embrace them.
During school, she works as a THRIVE mentor and participates in Choom Boom and Anime Club when she is not busy studying with friends. Outside of school, she loves to learn languages and spend time with her mom during her spare time.
Favorite Asian Meal/Comfort Food: My mom’s pancit and lumpia
MELANIE SUNG-CLARKE
Co-President
She/Her | ‘23 | Intended Anthropology Major, Psychology Minor
Melanie is a fourth-generation Chinese American who was adopted from China, and grew up in Singapore at an American school. Having grown up abroad, she was exposed to a multicultural living environment, and hopes to create spaces on campus for those sharing the pan-Asian identity. Before the pandemic hit, Melanie was part of BMC’s Judo Club, and practically lived in Canaday library (but wasn’t necessarily always doing her homework). Since COVID-19 and quarantine, she has instead further fueled her unhealthy obsession with YouTube and pickles (they taste good, do not judge her).
Favorite Asian meal/comfort food: Hainanese chicken rice (fun fact - I wrote about chicken rice for my common app, and my acceptance letter for BMC included a comment from the admissions person reviewing my application about how much she enjoyed reading my essay)
KATHY ZHANG
Treasurer
She/They | ‘23 | Biology Major, Anthropology Minor (Pre-Med)
Kathy is a first-generation Chinese American college student from Havertown, Pennsylvania. They’re always seeking opportunities to connect with more people through their beautiful culture and heritage! In addition to ASA, they are involved with Intervarsity, Health Center Advisory Board, and the Peer Health Educators group. Post-graduation, they hope to pursue medical school and work in the pediatric field. When they’re not doing work, Kathy loves sketching, listening to the latest kpop comeback, hiking with their family, and burning banana bread (slightly burnt is so good trust me!).
Favorite Asian Meal/Comfort Food: I love making and eating egg tart (dan ta) and my mom makes mean Sichuan boiled beef (Shui Zhu Niu Rou) that I just adore.
ELIZABETH NUTH
Secretary
She/Her | ‘23 | Psychology Major, Sociology Minor
Elizabeth is a first generation Cambodian American from Dallas, Texas. Coming from a Cambodian background, Elizabeth values conversations about the history of smaller Asian countries and hopes to have more open conversations about issues within the APIA community. In addition to ASA, Elizabeth is also part of Mawrters for Mental Health. When she’s not in class or studying, Elizabeth enjoys long drives (love those Texas highways), baking, cooking, and sending her friends tiktoks.

AANANDI MURLIDHARAN
Events and Outreach Coordinator
She/Her | '23 | Anthropology, Creating Writing
Aanandi is a first generation Indian American from Edison, New Jersey. She's a chai enthusiast, who stans way too many kpop groups for her own good. Ask her which ones and she’ll be your friend forever. Aanandi is super passionate about Asian representation. She enjoys writing about Asians who are making a difference in Western media. When she’s not scrolling through Tiktok or checking Erd’s menu in hopes of seeing mac and cheese, you can catch her singing with the Acabellas or dancing for Choom Boom.
Favorite Asian meal/comfort food: baingan ka saalan, but only the one my mom makes :)
SAM KIM
Social Media Publicity Chair
She/Her | ‘24 | Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Growing up, she speaks Khmer and Tieng Viet at home, and English at school, resulting in her passion for learning about other people’s language and culture. She enjoys getting involved in community-related activities and getting to know other people. Sam likes to draw, cooking (she’s not very good, but it is a work in progress), and binge-watch Korean dramas with her friends during her free time.

BECKY YU
Website Publicity Chair
she/her | ‘24 | Sociology
Becky is a second-generation Chinese American, first-generation college student from Bandon, Oregon. Being from an area with barely any diversity, she hopes to meet new people and to contribute to conversations on APIA identities at a primarily white campus. Outside of classes, Becky loves to talk with her parents to learn more about her cultural background, scroll through social media, or go on walks.

RACHEL LEE

In addition to this role, Rachel is also a Posse scholar, Student Activities and Orientation Assistant, and Library Circulation assistant.
